You looked at me
As if I were a whole new world
and lit me up
All over.
Every thawing river,
Valley,
and grassland
Was a new piece of me revealed
Beneath your light.
Your warmth was a catalyst
and we flourished together as we explored.
You unearthed ancient fossils
From deep within my melting skin:
Fragile bones,
Cold and rough,
Once hidden below the surface.
Too many and you were gone,
Leaving me
Iced over and dark.
Uninhabitable
and wondering how I could ever forget
I was a frozen rock
and you were the sun.
